The Details

Let’s start with the one flooding every media outlet with billionaire propaganda: PROP 40.

SUPPORT: Indivisible Santa Maria supports the ONE-TIME 5% tax on the 200 billionaires in CA who hoard $2 TRILLION in wealth

•     This tax is an emergency tax to prevent the collapse of CA’s healthcare

•     IF you’re not a billionaire, none of the tax applies to you

•     IF you are a billionaire, PAY your taxes like the rest of us!

WHY: Deep federal cuts strip roughly $100 billion from California healthcare over the next five years as a result of the massive tax giveaway to the billionaires on Jan 2025, under HR 1 “One Big Beautiful Ugly Bill”

•     Prop 40 keeps hospitals and ERs open

•     Prop 40 stabilizes premiums and coverage for all of us

•     Prop 40 funds state food assistance programs that millions of Californians rely on

•     Prop 40 funds K-14 education

Billionaires are using scare tactics to make you care more about their ballrooms, yachts and unfettered power than care for your own well-being and future.

In democratic elections, billionaires get one vote, just like you. They don’t like it. They are addicted to hoarding money, votes and power. That’s why they are buying elections - they disdain and fear the power of the people. Hold billionaires and their enablers accountable. No one has done it yet. Californians have the courage to lead: VOTE YES ON 40!

Next up, VOTE NO on 41 & 42

Props 41 & 42 are backed by the same billionaires against Prop 40.

Props 41 and 42 were put on the ballot by billionaires to trick voters into nullifying the billionaire tax. The PAC pushing for 41 & 42 is funded by none other than the right-wing ultra-rich. Both Props 41 and 42 are poison pills, on the ballot specifically to cancel out Prop 40. Even if 40 passes, if 41 & 42 receive more votes, Prop 40 cannot be enacted.

Billionaires would rather set fire to a suitcase of $$$ before paying their share of taxes that helps the American people. That’s why we are VOTING NO on PROPS 41 & 42! Californians are ready to rein in billionaire exploitation!

Support the Following. Here's why:

Prop 1: Affordable Housing Bond - Creates a $ 11.25 B bond for multi-family housing. CalVet home loans and youth housing.

Prop 2: Rainy Day Fund - allows the state government to save more money during good years; will be used to cover budget deficits in other years

Prop 3: Permanent High-Earner Tax - Renews existing income tax on the top 2% (currently: $360k/single, $721k/joint filers). Funds early childcare education, K-12, community colleges

Prop 4: Public Campaign Financing - Levels the playing field for grassroots candidates by setting up public financing systems for state and local politicians

Prop 5: Recall election reform - Updates recall process to allow more time for immigrant voters to access voter information (multiple languages), meaningfully participate in recall elections, changes process for filling vacant seat when a state official is recalled (if Governor recalled, LT. Gov. moves up until next election)

Prop 37: Fund to help people build new homes - $25B bond, funds low-cost mortgages on new constructions or nonresidential building converted to housing, for middle and lower-income homebuyers making less than 200% of the median income in area and plan to live in home. No direct cost to state/local gov. Private lenders, not taxpayers, would be on the hook if homebuyers default.

Prop 40: See above explainer

Oppose the Following. Here's why:

Prop 38: Funds specific immunology and immunotherapy research - $8.4 bond measure. Only one institution, with already a billionaire donor and co-founder, would qualify for funding based on very narrow criteria, excludes a majority of CA research institutions. Locks in $500 million/yr for 25 years.

Prop 39: Voter ID mandate - Makes it even harder to vote. Creates additional barriers to voting, another attempt at voter suppression (mirrors Republican voter suppression laws in other states)

Prop 41: See above explainer

Prop 42: See above explainer

Prop 43: Higher tax threshold - Raises the vote threshold for local special tax measures from majority to two-thirds, making it harder for local communities to address budget shortfalls

Prop 44: Clinic Spending Mandate -  Applies to federally qualified health centers (nonprofits). Puts in place steep financial penalties on clinics, impacting 91% of current community health clinics that would lead to their closures and 7 million patients affected, including: children, working families, seniors, veterans, the uninsured, and 1 in 3 Medi-Cal patients. Community health clinics are already heavily regulated, subject to audits and reporting of spending.

Prop 45: Weaken environmental review - guts environmental protections and further reduces community input on polluting projects, which disproportionately harms low-wage, immigrant communities
