Code of Conduct

• Members of the Indivisible Santa Maria community agree to be respectful when communicating with other community members as well as with people outside the community, both online and in person. Harassment of any kind is not allowed.

• Members agree to be respectful to our members of Congress, their staff, and others we may interact with in the course of our events. When sharing photos or quotes from meetings or events, do so only with explicit permission of people in the photo or quoted.

Safety Guidelines

While we want Indivisible Santa Maria events and meetings to be safe places for everyone, there could be times where you see an individual engaging in harassment or unacceptable behavior. If you see someone engaging in questionable behavior, you are encouraged to get an organizer’s attention—as well as to center the welfare of the person being harassed by using one of the 5Ds of Bystander Intervention:

• Distract: Derail the incident of harassment by interrupting it.

• Delegate: Ask a third party for help with intervening in harassment.

• Delay: Check in on the person after the fact to reduce their trauma.

• Document: Record or take notes on an instance of harassment.

• Direct: To be used with caution; name the inappropriate behavior by confronting the person doing harm.

Indivisible Santa Maria (ISM) is committed to strategic nonviolence in all of its actions. To align with this commitment, ISM adheres to the principles of peaceful resistance and de-escalation. We believe that nonviolence is a powerful tool for social change and a moral imperative for our movement. We encourage all members to join us in this commitment.
